I was very excited when the lovely Sam from Sinchies offered to send me a selection of her products to review. As some of you may know, I am a mum of three including a 7 month old who is just getting into solid food, a 5.5 year old at school and a 3.5 year old.
I had already made up a batch of pureed apple and pears, plus some sweet potato, carrot and pumpkin. As I was filling up some of the sprout pouches with different combinations for my 7 month old, my 3.5 year old asked if he could try some “baby food”. I sneakily made his half vegetable and half fruit. Surprisingly he sucked the entire contents within a couple of minutes and said that it tasted like the one from the shop. I must admit I had used some store bought pouches with him 3 years earlier. My 7 month old really enjoyed sucking her food straight from the pouch also, however she wanted to hold it herself which was a little messy. I need to get some of the Sinchies Sip’N Silicone lids that stop the spills when she is ready to fully feed herself.
I have been using them mainly with my 7 month old for times when we have been out to the park or away on holidays. They are very easy to fill and with the double ziplock at the top I have not had any spills or leaks. You can simply wash them in hot soapy water or the dishwasher and air dry, and they are ready to be used again and again. Plus, to make life a little easier I have filled some with purees and placed them in the freezer ready for next time.
As a novelty dessert with my older two, I have filled the pouches with custard or yoghurt and they think it’s great. For a really special treat they actually love eating ice cream out of the pouches and for my messy 3 year old it is fantastic.
Sinchies also make a range of reusable sandwich and snack bags, which are great for everyday use when out and about. I keep a little bag of nuts and sultanas in my nappy bag and am planning on sending my daughters school lunch in one of the sandwich bags when she goes back to school next week.
If you were looking to reduce your use of store bought baby food, use less plastic wrap and save money, I would highly recommend getting a selection of Sinchies products. They are a high quality product and so easy to fill, wash and reuse. They will even send you a free sample if you would like to try before you buy. My kids favorite puree combinations:
Apple and pear
Nectarine and peach
Sweet potato, carrot and apple
Cauliflower, broccoli, apple and pumpkin
Mashed banana and custard
My top tip for stewing fruit for purees:
You DO NOT need to peel the fruit first. Simply core and cut into chunks, place in a pot with a little water (not too much as the fruit has liquid in it) and simmer with the lid on until the fruit is really soft. Once cooled, blitz in a blender or food processer and the skin will be so soft it just mixes in. Plus you get all the goodness of the skin. It’s YUM!!
